T-Pain Says Aaliyah’s Death Over-Hyped Her Legacy!

By  |

T-Pain found himself heavily criticized when he revealed that he would have a track with Aaliyah on his new mixtape.

When promoting his new mixtape The Iron Way (out now), he discussed using Aaliyah’s vocals on the track “Girlfriends” (which didn’t make the final cut) — saying many felt he didn’t ‘deserve’ to use her voice.

I’m still tryin to figure out how ppl feel I dissed Aaliyah. I was talkin bout how ppl turn into WBC anytime somebody mentions her name

T-Pain explained that he felt her legacy may have been over-hyped due to her untimely death and compares her to Beyoncé.

He said:

I ain’t discrediting Aaliyah in any kind of way, but you know how sometimes when people die… You know how somebody’s an asshole their whole life, but when you go to their funeral it’s like, “This guy is the greatest man that ever walked this Earth.” [crowd moans]… You know what I’m saying… I’m not saying Aaliyah…

Because she passed nobody’s good enough to be next to her. If she was still alive, then everybody would be saying, “Oh you’re trying to be like Beyoncé.” But now that she’s passed, everybody’s like, “Nobody can be like her.” That’s just how it is, and that’s how people are. People just look for s**t to talk about.

He’s entitled to his opinion, but his delivery was a bit harsh, no?
