BB’s Next Gen Up: GUDGUD

By  |

Today I had the opportunity to interview GUDGUD members Krishelle, Gracious, and Aeriyal. Let me be the first one to tell you these girls are definitely something to watch out for. Just like their presence in a room, their talent and sisterhood are truly undeniable. Are you ready to meet music’s hottest new girl group? Read my interview with them below.

How long have you all been singing?

Krishelle: “I have been singing for about three years. I was on a vocal scholarship to my college.”

Gracious: “For about five years.”

Aeriyal: “Since I was four years old.”

When was the moment you knew you wanted to pursue a career in music?

Krishelle: “I started out with the group as a background dancer and when I saw the level of show the group put on, I said “I want to do that”.

Gracious: “I also started out with the group as a background dancer. I first saw GUDGUD at a high school football game and checked them out; It looked like something I wanted to be a part of. Ever since then, I have been hooked.”

Aeriyal: “It was during my freshman year of high school. I used to be a basketball player and loved it, but the call from music was just too strong to ignore. I stopped playing basketball and joined the school choir. I saw GUDGUD on Instagram and I saw they were looking for a new member. I tried out and became a background dancer. I worked really hard and was able to get a spot in the group.”

How did the group originally come together and how would you describe GUDGUD’s sound?

Michael Butler (Manager): “GUDGUD was originally launched as a six month experiment to put together a teen group that could make music that was nostalgic, fresh, and edgy and delivered a positive message. The first incarnations of the group garnered a healthy local buzz, but members did not click. Regardless the method used in constructing a group, the lack of chemistry can create problems that are impossible to overcome.

Artists may be extremely talented by themselves, but in a particular group they might not fit. GUDGUD has changed members several times like many groups before them, seeking the necessary “chemistry” that all successful groups must possess. Gracious, Krishelle, and Aeriyal were able to watch firsthand what to do and what not to do in order to build group chemistry by watching past members in action. ”

Aeriyal: “Now it’s our turn and we are going to make the best of it. You can describe our show as progressive R&B with a rock edge to it.

What does each member bring to GUDGUD?

Aeriyal is the big voice. She loves to joke around and dance. Gracious is the OG of the group. She has been here the longest and know so much about the music business. She’s also the rapper of the group. Krishelle is the strongest dancer and mother figure of the group. She looks out for all of us. She is a great writer and artist as well.

Any dream collaborations?

We’d love to work with KISS. They are the best marketers in the business and know how to put on a show. Actually, a lot of what we do is from KISS. We would also love to work with Tina Turner. She is the ultimate performer and artist. We loved working with Rey Reel this past summer. He is the producer that produced “Flawless” by Beyonce.

Where do you see GUDGUD in five years?

Our goal is to get a Barbie doll made of us. That is when you have really made it. It is a driving force for us and everything we do is for that goal.

Any new projects?

We are in the studio finishing up our new album, We are going to release three singles before we drop it. The first of the three just came out and is called “What I Like”. All the proceeds will go to the I Love Music Foundation to help support music education in our schools. We are big on music education. We will be touring this summer to support the album.
