Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Gospel recording artist Marica Chisolm fell in love with music at the young age of two while being a member of Big Miller Grove Baptist Church. At this point in her life, she had developed such a strong hunger for God and a heart for true worship, that it led her to accept the call of becoming a psalmist.

From that moment on, Marica’s life has never been the same. She’s had national performances opening up for some of your favorite artists such as Kirk Franklin and Fred Hammond just to name a few, and the blessings just keep on getting bigger!

With her sophomore album in the works and the release of her brand new single “Favor” arriving tomorrow, I decided to catch up with the woman that’s been having everyone talking.

You’re currently in the process of creating your sophomore album. How does it feel? Is it still surreal?

It feels amazing to be working on my second album. I’m so thankful to have been called by God to do this and I’m so excited about spreading His message to His people. It is definitely surreal.

Have we picked a name yet? What can listeners expect?

Yes, the name of the album is “Worship Conversations”. My listeners can expect a worship experience from beginning to end where not only do they speak to God, but He will also speak to them.

On your previous project Simply Worship, you had songs that were written by fellow Gospel artists Tasha Cobbs and Darius Paulk. Will you collaborating with them again for this record?

Yes, there will be collaborations. Although I didn’t collaborate with Tasha Cobbs and Darius Paulk for this project, I was able to work with other amazing artists such as Chandler Moore, Ryan Jackson, and Sharon Jackson.

As a contemporary Gospel singer, do you ever find it difficult to balance the Gospel and secular sounds?

No, not at all. I try to ensure that the sound I produce is pure and unaltered by the secular, yet still appealing to listeners of all demographics.

How important is it for you to be completely unfiltered in your songs and truly send encouragement, love, and hope in the melodies that people hear from you?

I believe that it’s absolutely important. My job is to lead people back to Christ with authenticity. Trusting in God is a real experience and I want to give my listeners a real message.

It’s very clear that your relationship with God is strong. Was there a particular situation or moment in your life that ultimately secured that relationship?

I can’t choose one particular situation. My relationship with God has been shaped and strengthened by a collection of events that have happened in my life.

DeWayne Woods calls you Atlanta’s best kept secret. Did that confirm anything for you?

It really did. It’s a blessing and an honor to be recognized and respected for my calling. Hearing things like that confirms that I’m doing what God wants me to do.

“Favor”, your new single that’s set to release tomorrow, isn’t even out yet and already has the public on the edge of their seats! What was the inspiration behind this record?

My inspiration was the work of God in my life and how He continuously shows me favor in every situation I encounter. After hearing “Favor”, listeners will be encouraged and left with a message that all is well and will be well no matter what they are going through simply because of God’s favor.

Where can people keep up with you?
