Say it Ain’t So Lord! Jussie Smollet May or May Not Have Just Announced that He’s Leaving the Show

Last night’s episode of Empire left us all on the edge of our seats, but it seems like there may be an underlying reason as to why the story line has taken such an unexpected turn. In last night’s episode, Jamal was shot after he jumped in front of a bullet that was meant for his father. This seasons previews have been telling us that a Lyon member would eventually get shot, but I never imagined it would be Jamal. I was thinking that maybe Rhonda or Andre would shoot Anika after discovering that she was the cause of Rhonda’s miscarriage. Or maybe Luscious’s would have his hit men shoot his mother because granny is definitely a loose cannon. Secretly, I was hoping that the bullet would hit Luscious because let’s be honest, he deserves a bit of karma. I was devastated that writers chose to shoot Jamal but it seems like there may be a reason for that.

In my opinion, this cryptic message doesn’t necessarily mean that he has quit the show for good. He may just be taking some time off to focus on his career. They could put Jamal in a “coma” I’ve seen that done in television time and time again. Or, this may just be a ploy to trick us all into assuming the worst, that Jamal is going to die. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
