Farewell Obamas : Still Serving Bae Goals

By  |

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama delivered his farewell speech in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. In his farewell speech the President highlighted some of the accomplishments that occurred during his presidency. Some of those incredible moments included reversing a great recession, repairing the relationship between the United States and Cuba, rebooting the auto industry, and providing thousands of United States citizens with affordable healthcare.

In addition to taking a walk down memory lane and reminiscing on the achievements of his presidency, the Commander in Chief used his farewell address as a call to action. President Obama stated that the South side of Chicago is where he learned that change only happens when ordinary people get involved, get engaged, and come together to demand it.

The President then shifted the focus of his speech to his loved ones who have been by his side since the beginning. With affection and appreciation, he acknowledged our First Lady with teary eyes. Before he could even complete his wife’s name, (yes he addressed her as Michelle LaVaugn Obama) the audience gave her a well-deserved standing ovation.

Michelle, for the past 25 years, you’ve been not only my wife and mother of my children, but my best friend. You took on a role you didn’t ask for and made it your own with grace and grit and style and good humor. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody. And a new generation sets its sights higher because it has you as a role model. You’ve made me proud. You’ve made the country proud.”

The President’s heartwarming tribute to Michelle Obama and his daughters  Malia and Sasha made this farewell even harder to bear. For the past eight years President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have served us the Ultimate Presidential Bae Goals. They have debunked the stereotypes surrounding black love and strong black marriages. The Obamas have set examples for young black couples who have only heard negative things about the opposite sex. They have showed us what the essence of black love looks like. They have given us examples of how strong black love raises healthy strong-minded children. The Obamas painted a realistic portrait of the nuclear black family that seemed to be fading away in the fabric of America.
