Do The Right Thing: Spike Lee Boycotts Chrisette Michele

By  |

Thursday morning Spike Lee stated that he would not be using Chrisette Michele’s music on the soundtrack of his new project. The filmmaker stated via Facebook that he had intended to use Michele’s music in his new Netflix series She’s Gotta Have It. It was rumored earlier this week that the R&B singer would be performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration. The singer has recently issued a statement in response to the backlash surrounding the allegations.

The statement reads:
My heart is broken for our country, for the hope of our children, for the fights of those who came before us..

I cry at the thought that Black History , American History might be in vine.

The country has had  great moments. God has shined his light upon us.

Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful and progressive conversation.

I’m willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “Those stones”, if they allow me to be a voice to the voiceless.

I am here.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day  to end, the day we become silent about what matters.”

I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.

-Chrisette Michele

The artist did not confirm or deny the allegations surrounding the issue.
Questlove responded to the rumors as well via Twitter, Talon Kweli supported his request.

I know we’re all waiting to see how rapper T.I. will respond to this news. He has recently shared his thoughts on Steve Harvey and other black celebrities who have met with the presidential elect Donald Trump.
