Next Up: From TrapSoul to True To Self

By  |

2015 was the year the R&B world changed as a new voice emerged on the scene. A Louisville, Kentucky native by the name of Bryson Tiller created a lane for himself in the music industry. Many wondered specifically what type of artist he truly was as his first album gave us rapping, singing, and an overall new sound to R&B.

Bryson released his first album TrapSoul in October of 2015. The album included 14 songs notably with no features. Bryson was able to create a name for himself as an R&B crooner with songs like Don’t, Sorry Not Sorry, and Exchange, one of my personal favorites, topping the charts. TrapSoul sat at number 2 on the Billboard’s R&B chart for 2015-2016. Currently, for this week’s R&B chart, it sits at number 13 out of 25.

Since the release of his first album, he has headlined his own tour, TrapSoul Tour. It covered 34 cities around the U.S, starting from Portland to his hometown Louisville. He also toured as an opening act for the Weeknd overseas in Europe.

He has been featured on songs like Drove U Crazy with Gucci Mane, and Ima Be Alright with DJ Khaled. His latest feature tease is collaborating with Drake, the 6 God himself, on Drake’s upcoming album More Life.

We’ve all been anxious to know the details of his next album and our prayers have been answered. Through a tweet, Bryson let us know the title of his upcoming sophomore album, True To Self.

Although the album isn’t fully complete as of yet, we do have a glimpse of what’s to come. Last October Bryson released a single titled, Let Me Explain. The song speaks to how close he was to losing his girl by the way he was treating her. He’s trying to make things better by explaining what caused him to act in the manner he did because he knows he knew he was wrong. He encourages her to go because he doesn’t deserve her yet he really doesn’t want her to leave.

This song is expected to be on his upcoming sophomore album, True to Self. As we wait for more details on True To Self let’s look back at the album that started it all… What are your favorites from TrapSoul?
