Living Single: The Reboot

By  |

Queen Latifah announced a possible return of the 90s sitcom Living Single. Latifah confirmed the Brooklyn-set Fox comedy reboot on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live last week. In response to a caller who asked about a possible Living Single comeback Latifah responded “Funny you should ask that, we’re actually working on it. It’s not there yet but hopefully we can get it happening.”

According to Latifah the reboot is still in its early stages. When asked if the reboot would end up on Netflix Latifah responded “it depends”. Leaving us Living Single fans in a hopefully suspense.

Living Single was one of the most popular African American sitcoms of the 90s and produced by Latifah. The sitcom ran on Fox from 1993-1998. It followed the lives of six friends living in a Brooklyn brownstone. The series helped launch Latifah’s acting career. In addition to Latifah the series starred Erika Alexander, Kim Coles, T.K. Carson, Kim Fields,John Henton and in later seasons Mel Jackson. There hasn’t been any information released about the possible casting for the reboot , I would love to see the original cast return.

The Living Single reboot would definitely fill the void we’ve been feeling since the there has been a lack of great black sitcoms. We need more black sitcoms like Living Single that showcase black love, black wealth, black entrepreneurship as well as black sisterhood and black brotherhood.
